Aicardi Syndrome Awareness Day

Heya! This mani is special and important to me. It’s for Aicardi syndrome Awareness Day. #aicardisyndromeawarenessday is on November 8th. This date was chosen because it is the birthday of the late Dr. Jean Aicardi, internationally renowned French pediatric neurologist for whom this disorder was named (& it also falls during Epilepsy Awareness Month, which you can still join us for my first collab and use the hashtag #epilepsyawarenessmani ) This date was approved by The Aicardi Syndrome Foundation & all are encouraged to spread the word & wear purple and pink on November 8th to show your support.

This day is important to me, because I have a 2.5 year old daughter diagnosed with this disorder. It’s a shame I had to become a mother of a child with medical & developmental issues, to be more aware of disabilities, medically complex & development issues & what epilepsy can cause to people. So it’s become important to me to spread awareness as best as I can & to get educated about other kinds of disorders that people may have.

The colors for this syndrome are purple, to represent epilepsy that is linked to this disorder. Seizures usually begin in the first few months of life. Pink is because Aicardi syndrome is found almost exclusively in girls. The split at the top of the ribbons represents Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (the missing part of the brain linked to this disorder).

I invite you to learn more about Aicardi Syndrome by visiting this website: https://aicardisyndromefoundation.org/aicardi-syndrome/

I hope you learned something new today & that you enjoy this mani as well.

Happy nail painting! 💅🏼 💗
